Research by NAVCA and the University of Exeter estimates that England hosts approximately 335,000 unregistered voluntary and community groups, alongside 132,000 registered charities and 30,000 social enterprises. Recognising and supporting this “voluntary sector microbiome” is crucial for effective service delivery and fostering healthier communities.
