The Wellbeing Prescription Service

The Wellbeing Prescription Service, which is jointly run by Tandridge District Council, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and funded by East Surrey Clinical Commissioning Group and Surrey County Council, supports people to make small changes to their lifestyles to improve their health.   Wellbeing Advisors are based in GP surgeries throughout East Surrey helping people to lose weight, get fitter, stop smoking, connect with local services and talk about how they feel. Local residents can book an appointment through their local surgery or be referred by their GP.

The service also provides home visits for patients who are unable to visit their surgery. To access this service requires a referral from a heath care professional or a member from the Adult Social Care for them to visit.

It is now one of the largest signposting services in the country and the team of 14 Wellbeing Advisors will see over 4,000 people a year. 88% of people who have used the Wellbeing Prescription service made a positive change to their lifestyle and 78% have visited their GP less since using the service.

In 2017 Wellbeing Prescription was one of the initiatives shortlisted for a national health and wellbeing award and the team was also invited to present its work at the inaugural International Social Prescribing Network Research Conference in June this year.
